Cook Healthier Great Tasting Meals For Your Family.

Granma's Pound Cake

Cooking is an experience that most girls and boys want to try when they are young. Letting the children help in the kitchen teaches them good hand washing techniques.  Because hand washing is done very often while preparing a meal. The grandchildren really want to help grandma cook. Here is a recipe for a pond cake that my grandmother taught me to cook when I was about 8 years old. I loved being in the kitchen then and I still love cooking.

We called this Grandma’s Pound Cake

2 cups sugar

2 cups butter

4 cups plain flour (1 lb.)

10 eggs (1 lb.)

Cream butter and sugar. Beat egg yolks and whites separately. Add egg yolks to creamed butter and sugar. Add egg whites alternately with flour. Long beating of air into this mixture is the success of this cake. Grandma always beat it with her hand in a large wooden bowl. Pour into greased and floured tube pan. Put in cold oven. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 ½ to 2 hours.

You can use half the ingredients and make a ½ pound cake.

This is a great homemade pound cake that everyone will enjoy. It is wonderful served with a bowl of Vanilla Ice Cream. It is also great served with cool whip and Strawberries like Strawberry Shortcake.

My grandma always seem to enjoy me helping in the kitchen although now I think I was more in her way then help. But it taught me something that I try to pass on to my grandchildren love is more valuable than anything else.
