This year, the Gilroy Festival is held July 24-26, 2009, at the same location in Gilroy, California. Over 107,000 people attended last year and it looks like the festival may attract just as many, if not more, this year. The festival was founded by Rudy Melone, Don Christopher, and Val Filice in 1979 as a charity fundraiser. After 30 years of success, the event has raised $7.5 million for varies charities. This event has been a huge success, with over 4000 volunteers and 150 non-profit groups helping out. This year, expect to see a huge number of attractions for the whole family to enjoy. Be prepared to stuff yourselves full from 63 different food vendors, watch a recipe contest and cook off, and see over 40 entertainment acts on four different stages, along with about 10 entertainment acts for children on the kids' stage. Nearly 100 booths will be there, displaying just about anything you would want to find, and the Miss Gilroy Garlic contest is always a hit. There is plenty to check out and you have three full days to do it. Where else will you find garlic ice cream and garlic french fries? Ticket prices range from $6-12. $12 is the general admission price and $6 is for children under 12 and seniors over 60. These prices are for one day and parking is free. If you plan to fly out to the event, South County Airport in San Martin, California can direct you. |
